Wilby Endodontics we use the latest materials and techniques in order to provide root canal treatments to the highest standards. Teeth require root canal treatments when the nerve is inflamed or the root canal is infected. This may be due to caries, leaky restorations or trauma to the dental pulp (nerve) through the tooth.
A surgical microscope is used for all procedures, this allows the Endodontist to deal with the complexities of the root canal system under a high degree of magnification.

In order to disinfect the root canal system effectively a selection of strong antimicrobial agents are used with an ultrasonic irrigation system.
The root canal system is then sealed to prevent re-infection; this is called the root canal filling.
Lower left first permanent molar root canal treated due to infection of the root canal. This had resulted in an inflammatory response in the jaw bone surrounding the tooth (black shadow) which the patient experienced as swelling and discomfort.
Root canal treatment disinfected the root canals, allowing the inflammation in the jaw bone to subside. New bone replaced the inflamed tissue around the roots of the tooth and complete healing can be seen 1 year later after treatment.
Most root canal treated teeth will require a crown. This this will help prevent the tooth from fracturing (a common reason root filled teeth require extraction) and also help seal the root canals to prevent re-infection of the root canals with bacteria from saliva.
